The goal was to holistically protect the listed estate from decay and secure the attraction for future generations. The scheme focused on the conservation of the existing structures and the re-integration of the estate landscape – with the hall given a new lease of life to provide a greater visitor experience. Essential repair work was complemented with the addition of a new café and WC facilities.
The landscape design included interpretation and play facilities including features based on historical layouts and data. Todd Milburn delivered Quantity Surveying services, ensuring the financial aspects of the scheme were kept up to date at all stages from the initial survey and schedule of repairs, through to the final account. The scheme has received local and national recognition, being awarded the winner of the Conservation and Regeneration category of the Constructing Excellence North East Awards 2021 and in 2022 it was crowned Heritage Project of the Year in the UK RICS Awards.
